Weak AI

Weak AI, also known as narrow AI, refers to artificial intelligence that is designed to perform a specific task very well, but nothing beyond that. It does not think or understand like a human, and it cannot apply its knowledge to unrelated problems. For example, a spam filter that detects unwanted emails or a recommendation system that suggests movies are both forms of weak AI.

Even though it is called “weak,” this type of AI powers most of the tools we use today. It is reliable, efficient, and often better than humans at repetitive or data-heavy tasks. Weak AI is the opposite of strong AI, which would have general intelligence similar to a human — something researchers are still working toward.
