Foundation Model

A foundation model is a large AI model trained on massive amounts of general data that can be adapted for many different tasks. These models, like GPT or DALL·E, are built to be flexible and powerful enough to handle a wide variety of uses, from writing emails and translating languages to generating images or analyzing code.

The reason they’re called “foundation” models is that they act as a base for other, more specialized tools. Developers can build on top of them or fine-tune them for specific needs without having to start over. Their versatility makes them a key building block in the modern AI ecosystem.
